چکیده

A latex slide test is described which is suitable for handling large numbers of specimens. The buffered latex suspension used is easily prepared from stable stock solutions at relatively low cost. It is not necessary to add Cohn fraction II (gamma globulin) to the latex reagent. A comparison has been made with the sheep cell agglutination (Rose-Waaler) test in 508 cases and a 96% overall agreement obtained. Factors influencing the test have been investigated.

A Comparison of the Sheep Cell and Latex Agglutination Tests in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The serum of patients with rheumatoid arthritis contains a factor which causes agglutination of sensitized particulate bodies. This phenomenon has been demonstrated using sheep red cells (Waaler, 1940), collodion particles (Wallis, 1946), bacteria (Wager, 1950), polysterene latex particles (Singer and Plotz, 1956), and bentonite (Bozicevich, Bunim, Freund, and Ward, 1958). Rose, Ragan, Pearce, ...

Evaluation of a New Preserved Latex Antigen for the Sero-diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Serological procedures useful for the detection of rheumatoid factors, utilizing polystyrene latex particles, have become well established and show a reasonably good degree of specificity and sensitivity (Mayne and Mathieson, 1961; Plotz and Singer, 1956; Vaughan, 1959). The use of these tests has been reviewed by Singer (1961) and Waller, Decker, Toone, and Irby (1961). The tests have also bee...

Comparative study of the haemagglutination test and a simple latex-fixation test for the detection of the rheumatoid factor.

The exact nature of the "rheumatoid factor" is unknown, but it appears to be an antibody-like substance composed of a gamma globulin complex of high molecular weight. Two groups of tests have been used to detect it: the haemagglutination test and the latex-fixation or Bentonite flocculation test. In the first group the indicator consists of sheep red cells with rabbit anti-sheep haemolysin as t...

A rheumatoid-like factor in patients with tissue damage.

The demonstration of a specific factor in the serum of patients with rheumatoid arthritis using sheep red cells sensitized with homologous rabbit antibody (Rose, Ragan, Pearce, and Lipman, 1948) has been followed by a variety of new techniques for detecting this factor. Substitution of sensitized red cells by polystyrene latex (Singer and Plotz, 1956) or bentonite particles (Bozicevich, Bunim, ...

Comparative Measurement of Rheumatoid Factor in Serum and Synovial Fluid of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients by ELISA and Latex-Agglutination Test

Rheumatoid factors (RF) are autoantibodies with specificity for the Fc portion of human IgG. Production of RF is a characteristic feature of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is detectable in high titer in about 90% of these patients. In this study, we measured total IgM, IgA, IgMRF and IgARF in serum and synovial fluid of 45 RA patients by ELISA and the results were compared with those obtained b...
